30 Awards, Local Stories, Uganda Film Festival's Global Impact

The Uganda Film Festival 2025, organized by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), is currently underway, running from May 26 to June 6, 2025. This year's theme, “Local Stories, Global Impact,” underscores the festival's mission to celebrate and elevate Ugandan storytelling on both a national and international scale.

Throughout the festival period, a series of events and activities have been held, ranging from film screenings at major cinemas, to industry workshops, panel forums, and regional outreach programs. These engagements are designed not only to showcase talent but also to build capacity among emerging filmmakers, writers, and producers across the country.

The festival will culminate in the highly anticipated Awards Gala on Friday, June 6, at Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) where outstanding achievements in film will be recognized across multiple categories. The Uganda Film Festival continues to serve as a powerful platform for promoting local content, empowering creatives, and fostering global collaborations within the film industry.

KIMOTE is a movie about a young craftsman who defies his father's wishes to abandon their ancestral trade, seeking to transform the humble backcloth into a symbol of cultural pride and a brighter future.

In the spirit of celebrating Ugandan creativity, all local content enthusiasts and fun-loving Ugandans are invited to take part in this year's festival in two exciting ways. First, by voting for their favorite films in select categories, including the People’s Choice Award, giving fans a direct voice in honoring the stories that resonate most. Second, by joining the glamorous Uganda Film Festival Awards Gala scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025, where filmmakers, actors, and storytellers will be celebrated in style. Whether you're a film critic, a cultural enthusiast, or just love a good story, this is your chance to be part of Uganda’s cinematic celebration.
