She effectively covers economic potential, cultural diversity, and natural beauty, easily providing a holistic view of the country, without sounding stiff. She effectively addresses the fact that Uganda is not without its challenges, but however, maintains an optimistic tone which is authentic.”

He was very intentional with his word choice and was able to blend one idea into another seamlessly and with evocative language
.” 2nd Runner Up: Bruce Musimenta – 88%
Bruce brings Uganda to life through a detailed description that keeps the reader fully engaged from start to finish. His depiction is quite poetic and engages rich descriptions that are practically visual. .”

These three outstanding writers will now embark on a fully paid, three day Mashariki creative economy Expo in Dar es salaam, Tanzania, a well-deserved reward for their patriotic spirit and passion for keeping the “Pearl of Africa” shining bright.

Writing is more than just words; it’s an art form that tells stories for generations to come. This competition was inspired by none other than Winston Churchill, who famously called Uganda the "Pearl of Africa" in his 1908 book, My African Journey. Over a century later, we continue to celebrate this legacy with pride.
